Biig Piig's Belfast gig was breathtaking…

A showcase of musical versatility and an impressive testament to the artist’s fast-growing popularity.
Kicking off the night in Limelight 2 on Wednesday the 19th of February from 7PM, the audience was first treated to performances from Rosa Cecilia, Becky McNeice, and Mac Wetha (DJ), each of the artists brought something different to the stage and really got the crowd warmed up ahead of Biig Piig’s arrival.
I spoke to some fans before the show to hear about what they were most excited to hear and answers varied between old and new tracks, but all commented on how much they loved the new album. With one stating, “I’m excited by this new wave of Irish artists who are being recognised on the world stage, it just shows Ireland is a home of talent.”
Biig Piig didn’t disappoint. Opening with “4AM”, she immediately established a captivating presence, drawing listeners in and setting the tone for the rest of the evening. Backed by a two-piece band that included instrumentals fromsax, bass, keys, and drums, she effortlessly transitioned through different songs in her discography, balancing newer tracks with older hits like “Don’t Turn Around”. The perfect blend of live instrumentation with electronic elements showcased her ability to transcend genres, mixing R&B, jazz, electronic, and indie influences into a sound that is uniquely her own.
Those who know Biig Piig will know she grew up in Spain during her childhood and represents that in her music by seamlessly transitioning from English to Spanish lyrics. Just like how she represents her whole self in her music she replicates that same energy on stage.
During her performance of “Picking Up” from her 2023 mixtape “Bubblegum”, Biig Piig took crowd interaction to a whole new level by performing the number in the middle of the audience, dancing with concert goers and just having a good time. A true dedication to making this an immersive experience.
Biig Piig spoke to the audience about raising a glass and thinking about someone you loved and miss before dedicating her track, “Brighter day” to all those people. Brighter Day comes off her new album 11:11, a track which she has said is about appreciating every moment for what it has been and being hopeful for the next round.
As if she hadn’t already given us enough energy throughout her entire set Biig Piig’s final number was a fiery performance of Kerosene. A classic number for the artist which had the whole crowd going wild. I’ll admit myself; I am a big Kerosene fan, so this was the perfect way to end the night.
The entire set was an experience from start to finish, pushing boundaries and offering a glimpse into the future of genre-defying music. A brilliant night of artistry displayed through her own music intertwined with sound bites from day-to-day life and fantastic lighting. Biig Piig brings a truly infectious energy to the stage, with both her spirit and her dance moves. Colour me impressed as she did not stop dancing the entire time she was on stage.
This performance solidified her place at the forefront of the new wave of Irish musicians taking the world by storm. A night filled with diverse sounds and exhilarating energy, BiigPiig’s live show proves she is an artist to watch as she continues to rise in the global music scene. And I for one can’t wait to see what’s next.
