He’s Behind You… oh no he isn’t! - we review PeterPan @ GOH

I took my fella, who incidentally hates Christmas and everything about it, to see The Pantomime Adventures of Peter Pan at The Grand Opera House, Belfast. I was buzzing to see it, him not so much.

Got to The Opera House, which in itself is stunning, we are so lucky to have this venue so close to home. It was a very mixed bag of a crowd, every one from grannies and grandas, mums and dads, kids, gungles – the whole heap, everyone was just out to have a good night.

The show itself was pretty epic. Believe it or not I’ve gotten this far into life and I’ve never seen or read Peter Pan, and I’ve never really had an interest in it either. But, and here’s the thing, this panto isn’t Peter Pan, it’s a Peter Pan story. Set after the original Peter Pan story, the panto brings together lots of singing and dancing, slap stick comedy, amazing costumes, innuendo, and audience participation. There is literally something in it for everyone.

Of course the legendary May McFettridge totally steals the show. Her humour literally never gets old, she had everyone in stitches from the kids to the grannies. Captain Hook is played by Jolene O’Hara and OMG that voice! She played the part with gusto and had the whole auditorium booing and hissing every time she took to the stage.

Being in The Grand Opera House the set, the props and the pyrotechnics were amazing. May made an entrance floating in from the ceiling, Wendy and Peter were flying across the stage, and wait till you see the humungous crocodile that makes it’s way into the audience – you’ll love it!

This is a show to be seen, go on your own, go with your significant other, your mates, yer da or maybe yer ma. Just go! Get into the festive spirit, interact, boo, hiss, sing and dance. Enjoy your life!
